Product properties & Features
TMI is a unique unsaturated aliphatic isocyanate with dual functional groups, containing both active NCO and isopropenyl groups. It is primarily used for latex modification and specialty polymer synthesis, with applications spanning surfactants, functional plastics, and polyurethane foams. TMI is a compound that can copolymerize with other vinyl monomers and also contain crosslinkable NCO active groups.
Since the NCO group of TMI is sterically protected by two adjacent methyl groups, it is relatively stable in water and does not undergo premature hydrolysis. By introducing isocyanate groups into acrylic resin chains, these groups can react with amino compounds during film formation to achieve crosslinking.
TMI reacts with polyols and polyamides to produce low‑viscosity prepolymers that are easy to filter and exhibit good flowability. Compared with conventional systems, it enables shorter reaction times, improves color clarity, enhances tensile properties, and does not impair aging resistance.
Applications
TMI can be used for latex modification, coatings, adhesives, one-component thermal-cure resins, plastic surface modification, foams, and elastomers.
