Liquid Polybutadiene
LPB
Chemical Name: Liquid Polybutadiene
CAS No. 9003-17-2; 25038-44-2
CODE: LPB
Product Description
Liquid Polybutadiene (LPB), also known as low-molecular-weight polybutadiene, is a type of liquid elastomer with a molecular weight of 1,000–10,000. It appears as a colorless to pale yellow transparent viscous liquid at room temperature and belongs to non-functionalized or functionalized (e.g., hydroxyl-terminated/carboxyl-terminated) liquid elastomers based on hydrocarbons.
Chemical Structure: The main chain is polymerized from butadiene, containing three structural units: 1,2-vinyl (high-vinyl type, ≥70%), cis-1,4, and trans-1,4. Grades with high 1,2-vinyl content exhibit higher reactivity.
Product properties & Features
1. High Reactivity: The molecular chain contains a large number of double bonds, enabling participation in vulcanization, grafting, epoxy curing, and other reactions, making it suitable as a reactive plasticizer/crosslinking agent.
2. Excellent Weather Resistance and Low-Temperature Performance: Saturated hydrocarbon backbone combined with low Tg results in aging resistance, water resistance, acid and alkali resistance, and elasticity retention at -60°C.
3. Low Volatility and High Insulation: High molecular weight leads to extremely low VOC, and it exhibits good electrical insulation properties, suitable for electronic potting and wires & cables.
4. Toughening and Reinforcing Effect: Significantly improves the impact resistance, tear resistance, and fatigue resistance of epoxy resins and rubbers.
Applications
1. Adhesives and Sealants: Epoxy resin toughener, automotive structural adhesives, electronic potting compounds, UV-curable adhesives, semiconductor bonding agents, enhancing adhesion and flexibility.
2. Rubber Modification: Reactive plasticizer for styrene-butadiene rubber/cis-polybutadiene rubber (replacing aromatic oil), reducing rolling resistance and improving wear resistance and tear resistance; co-crosslinking agent for peroxide vulcanization systems, increasing hardness (90A–95A) and reducing compression set.
3. Coatings and Inks: Reactive diluent for UV-curable coatings, additive for anti-corrosion coatings, ink modifier, reducing VOC and enhancing film water resistance, weather resistance, and flexibility.
4. Electronics and Electricals: Circuit board protective coatings, electronic component encapsulation materials, wire and cable insulation layers, leveraging its high insulation, low-temperature resistance, and aging resistance.
5. Others: Polyurethane modification, thermosetting resin toughening, explosive binders, flexible printing plate materials, etc.
Packing & Storage
50kg/plastic drum or 180kg/metal drum packaging.
Storage should be cool, dry and ventilated. The shelf life is 12 months, after the expiration of the re-inspection can still be used.
Avoid rain and sun during transportation. Do not mix with strong oxidants.
