CAS No.68954-10-9
Code: Hydrogenated HTPB
Character: Hydrogenated HTPB
Tg: Glass transition temperature ≈-70~-80°C
Hydroxyl value: : ≈0.8–1.2 mmol/g
CAS No.68954-10-9

Product Description
Hydrogenated HTPB (H-HTPB, Hydroxyl-terminated Hydrogenated Polybutadiene) is a saturated telechelic liquid rubber obtained by selectively hydrogenating and saturating the carbon-carbon double bonds on the main chain of conventional HTPB. It retains hydroxyl groups (-OH) at both molecular ends, with a stable polyethylene-polybutylene main chain structure.
- Structural Characteristics: Highly saturated main chain (no double bonds); hydroxyl groups at both ends, functionality ≈2.0; appears as a colorless/pale yellow transparent viscous liquid at room temperature.
- Core Advantages (vs. Conventional HTPB):
Improved Thermal Stability: Thermal decomposition temperature increases by approximately 30°C (≈240°C), delivering better resistance to thermal-oxidative aging.
Enhanced Aging Resistance: Excellent UV, oxidation and hydrolysis resistance; resists degradation in long-term outdoor/high-temperature environments.
Superior Mechanical Properties: Cured products exhibit higher tensile strength, modulus and hardness (Shore A up to 85).
Retained Low-Temperature Flexibility: Glass transition temperature (Tg) ≈-70~-80°C, maintaining excellent low-temperature elasticity.
Key Specifications:
Hydroxyl value: ≈0.8–1.2 mmol/g
Viscosity (25°C): ≈1000–5000 mPa·s
Hydrogenation degree: ≥90% (double bond saturation rate)

Hydrogenated HTPB is a saturated, highly stable, aging-resistant specialty liquid rubber. By eliminating double bonds through hydrogenation, it comprehensively outperforms conventional HTPB in thermal stability, aging resistance and mechanical properties. It is widely used in aerospace propellants, high-end polyurethane elastomers, weather-resistant adhesives, electronic potting compounds, heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings, etc., making it the preferred material for high-temperature, outdoor and long-service-life working conditions.
Applications
1. Aerospace
- Binder for Solid Rocket Propellants: Replaces conventional HTPB to significantly improve the thermal stability, aging life and mechanical strength of propellants. Used in strategic/tactical missiles and launch vehicle solid engines.
- Composite Solid Fuel: Serves as a component in solid-liquid hybrid rocket engine fuels, ensuring more stable combustion and higher storage safety.
2. High-Performance Polyurethane (PU) Materials
- Cast Elastomers: Manufacture aging-resistant seals, high-temperature vibration dampers, special automotive/aircraft tires, high Wear-resistant rollers; offers excellent oil resistance, hydrolysis resistance and long-term elasticity retention.
- Adhesives/Sealants: Two-component PU adhesives and weather-resistant sealants for building curtain walls, automotive windshields, photovoltaic modules, composite bonding; outdoor service life exceeds 10 years.
- Anti-Corrosion/Insulation Coatings: Heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings for ships, offshore platforms, pipelines, steel structures; insulating coatings for electronic components, transformers, circuit boards with superior moisture, salt spray and aging resistance.
3. Electrical & Electronics
- Insulation Potting Compounds: Low viscosity for easy pouring; cured products are flexible and temperature-resistant. Used for potting sensors, capacitors, power modules to provide moisture, vibration and insulation protection.
- Waterproof Coatings for Wiring Harnesses/Metal Parts: Replaces traditional asphalt or epoxy resins with low-temperature flexibility, crack resistance and strong adhesion.
4. High-End Civil Applications
- Rubber/Epoxy Modifiers: Added to natural rubber, synthetic rubber, epoxy resins to enhance aging resistance, low-temperature flexibility and bonding strength.
- High-End Sports Equipment: Aging-resistant plastic runways, outdoor elastic floors, Wear-resistant conveyor belts.
- Others: Waterproof membranes, artificial leather, elastic fibers, lubricant additives, etc.
Packing & Storage
50kg/plastic drum or 180kg/metal drum packaging.
Storage should be cool, dry and ventilated. The shelf life is 12 months, after the expiration of the re-inspection can still be used.
Avoid rain and sun during transportation. Do not mix with strong oxidants.
