Hydroxy-terminated Butadiene-styrene Random Copolymer
HTBS
Chemical Name: Hydroxy-terminated Butadiene-styrene Random Copolymer
Aliases: Hydroxyl-terminated butadiene-styrene liquid rubber
Code: HTBS
Product Description
HTBS is a low-molecular-weight telechelic liquid rubber formed by the random copolymerization of butadiene and styrene, with hydroxyl groups (-OH) at both ends. It appears as a pale yellow to amber transparent viscous liquid at room temperature.
Structure: The main chain consists of random butadiene-styrene segments (styrene content: 15–25 wt%), hydroxyl-terminated at both ends, with numerous active double bonds in the main chain.
Glass Transition Temperature (Tg): -60°C~-40°C (slightly higher rigidity and better heat resistance than HTPB)
Solubility: Soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons and esters; excellent compatibility with HTPB, LSBR, epoxy resins, and polyurethanes.
Product properties & Features
1. Dual Reactivity (Hydroxyl + Double Bond): Terminal hydroxyl groups cure with isocyanates (forming PU), while double bonds crosslink with sulfur/peroxides, enabling controllable crosslink density and high adhesive strength.
2. Balance of Rigidity and Toughness: Styrene segments enhance hardness, heat resistance, and abrasion resistance, while butadiene segments ensure low-temperature flexibility and elasticity—outperforming pure HTPB in comprehensive properties.
3. Low Viscosity & Easy Processability: Castable, potting, and coatable at room temperature; solvent-free and low VOC, suitable for molding complex components.
4. Aging Resistance & Electrical Insulation: Better main-chain saturation than solid SBR, offering excellent ozone resistance, hydrolysis resistance, and electrical insulation with a low dielectric constant.
Applications
Polyurethane Elastomers: Cast tires, shock-absorbing parts, and wear-resistant rollers, providing high resilience, low heat build-up, and tear resistance.
Electronic Potting & Insulation Materials: Potting for high-voltage transformers, sensors, and PCBs, delivering moisture resistance, temperature resistance, insulation, and vibration resistance.
Adhesives & Sealants: Automotive windshields, construction joints, and pipe seals, featuring strong adhesion, weather resistance, and oil resistance.
Epoxy/Resin Modification: Toughening epoxies to enhance impact and fatigue resistance, used in composites and structural adhesives.
Specialty Coatings: Anti-corrosion, waterproof, and damping coatings with strong adhesion, aging resistance, and crack resistance.
Packing & Storage
50kg/plastic drum or 180kg/metal drum packaging.
Storage should be cool, dry and ventilated. The shelf life is 12 months, after the expiration of the re-inspection can still be used.
Avoid rain and sun during transportation. Do not mix with strong oxidants.
