Single Hydroxyl group HTPB/ Mono-OH HTPB
69102-90-5
GB/GJB(GJB1327A-2021)
Character: Single Hydroxyl group HTPB/ Mono-OH HTPB
CAS No. 69102-90-5
Molecular weight: 1000 - 3000
Hydroxyl value: 0.5–1.0 mmol/g
Viscosity(25°C mPa.s): 500 - 3000
Product Description
Single-chain HTPB (mono-hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene) is a telechelic liquid rubber with a hydroxyl group at one end and a vinyl group at the other, enabling dual curing via hydroxyl and vinyl functionalities. It combines high reactivity, low viscosity, low-temperature resistance, hydrophobicity, and electrical insulation, making it suitable for casting and injection molding.
Structural Characteristics: Single hydroxyl end-capping, low molecular weight (Mn≈1000–3000), low-viscosity transparent liquid at room temperature. It combines hydroxyl reactivity and double bond crosslinking ability, enabling dual curing (hydroxyl/vinyl).
Core Advantages: Compared with traditional double-terminal HTPB (two hydroxyl groups), single-chain HTPB has lower viscosity, better process fluidity, superior flexibility and low-temperature resistance after curing (Tg≈-80°C), as well as strong hydrophobicity, hydrolysis resistance and electrical insulation.
Product properties & Features
Appearance: Colorless to pale yellow transparent viscous liquid
Hydroxyl Value: ≈0.5–1.0 mmol/g (mono-functional)
Viscosity (25°C): ≈500–3000 mPa·s (much lower than double-terminal HTPB)
Tg: ≈-75~-85°C
Density: ≈0.90–0.92 g/cm³
Features: Low viscosity, high transparency, aging resistance, acid and alkali resistance, wear resistance, low-temperature flexibility, electrical insulation, hydrophobicity.
Comparison with Traditional Double-Terminal HTPB
| Aspect | Single-Chain HTPB | Traditional Double-Terminal HTPB |
|---|---|---|
| Functionality | 1 (single hydroxyl group) | 2.0–2.6 (double-terminal + side hydroxyl groups) |
| Viscosity | Lower (500–3000 mPa·s) | Higher (3000–10000 mPa·s) |
| Curing Characteristics | Dual curing (hydroxyl + double bond), better flexibility | Mainly hydroxyl curing, high crosslink density, slightly higher rigidity |
| Typical Uses | Scenarios requiring low viscosity, high flexibility and low-temperature resistance | Structural parts and propellants requiring high strength and high modulus |
Single-chain HTPB is a mono-hydroxyl-terminated, low-viscosity, highly flexible special liquid rubber. Leveraging the processing and performance advantages of its mono-functional structure, it is widely applied in aerospace propellants, polyurethane elastomers, adhesives, electronic potting, anti-corrosion coatings, etc. It is especially suitable for high-end scenarios demanding low viscosity, high solid content, low-temperature resistance and high flexibility.
Applications
1. Aerospace
- Binder for Solid Propellants: Compounded with AP (Ammonium Perchlorate) and Al powder for solid propellants of rockets/missiles. Low viscosity facilitates high-solid-content pouring, with excellent elasticity and low-temperature stability after curing.
- Composite Solid Fuel: Used as a fuel component for hybrid rocket engines.
2. Polyurethane (PU) Materials
- Cast Elastomers: Low viscosity and easy molding for low-temperature resistant seals, shock-absorbing pads, high-resilience rollers, special tires (automotive/aircraft).
- Adhesives/Sealants: One-component moisture-curable or two-component PU adhesives for construction seals, automotive windshields, electronic potting, composite bonding, featuring hydrolysis resistance, weather resistance and flexibility.
- Special Coatings: Anti-corrosion, waterproof and insulating coatings for ships, pipelines, steel structures, electronic components, with high transparency, aging resistance and no cracking at low temperatures.
3. Electrical and Electronics
- Insulating Potting Compounds: Low viscosity for easy pouring and flexibility after curing for potting transformers, capacitors, sensors, circuit boards, providing moisture resistance, shock resistance and insulation.
- Waterproof and Anti-Corrosion Coatings: For protection of electronic modules, wiring harnesses, metal parts.
4. Civil Industry
- Rubber Modifier: Added to natural rubber, synthetic rubber, epoxy resin to improve flexibility, low-temperature resistance, wear resistance and adhesion.
- Sports Materials: Plastic runways, wear-resistant conveyor belts, elastic flooring.
- Others: Raw material for lubricant additives, waterproof membranes, artificial leather, elastic fibers.
Packing & Storage
50kg/plastic drum or 180kg/metal drum packaging.
Storage should be cool, dry and ventilated. The optimum temperature is -20~38'c. The shelf life is 12 months, after the expiration of the re-inspection can still be used.
Avoid rain and sun during transportation. Do not mix with strong oxidants.
