Product Description
Fullerene C70 is a cage-shaped carbon allotrope composed of 70 carbon atoms, belonging to the fullerene family. The molecule has an ellipsoidal (rugby-ball) shape with D5h symmetry, featuring a closed hollow structure formed by 12 five-membered rings and 25 six-membered rings. Compared with C60, it has 10 more carbon atoms and a longer ellipsoid, with a molecular size of approximately 0.71×0.79 nm.
Product properties & Features
High stability: Stable at room temperature and atmospheric pressure; resistant to acids, alkalis, UV, and oxidation. As an electron-deficient alkene, it readily undergoes electrophilic addition and cycloaddition reactions.
Easy derivatization: Hydroxyl, carboxyl, amino groups, etc., can be introduced onto the surface to form water-soluble/functionalized derivatives (e.g., fullerenol, fullerene carboxylic acid).
Redox activity: Can reversibly accept 6 electrons with a wide electrochemical window, suitable for electrode materials and sensors.
Optical properties: Broader UV-Vis absorption range than C60 (strong absorption in visible region) and high third-order nonlinear optical coefficient, applicable to optical limiting and photocatalysis.
Applications
Energy: Acceptor material for organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells with higher photoelectric conversion efficiency than C60; electrode material for lithium-ion batteries/supercapacitors, electrolyte additive for solid-state batteries.
Biomedicine: Highly effective free radical scavenger/antioxidant; photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT) (generates reactive oxygen species to kill cancer cells); drug carrier (loads chemotherapeutic drugs and gene drugs).
Material industry: Reinforcing filler for polymers (enhances strength, heat resistance, and aging resistance); UV stabilizer and antistatic agent; nonlinear optical devices and optical limiting materials.
